School Pictures

Sophie has her first school pictures this week. I have no idea what she should wear. I have been standing in front of her closet door opened pondering this. Should she dress up or just wear something cute that she would normally wear to school?

This should not be so challenging. But it is me we are talking about.

When I was teaching I once had a set of twins (a girl and a boy) in my class. They were fabulous very bright children. I enjoyed having them so much. They constantly challenged (in a good way) and surprised me.

Stay with me I'm going somewhere with this.

Well on picture day the girl came in sooooo dressed up - she looked great. Then a few seconds later her brother walked in wearing sweats. They were followed by their mother who was kind of giggling and she said she needed to explain her children's fashion choices. She said girl thought she should look pretty - dress up a little for pictures. Makes sense as this is what I also think. However boy thought it much more appropriate to wear sweats since that was his normal attire for school. His reasoning was if it is a school picture then dress like you are going to school. Hummm that makes sense too.

So what to wear? Dressy or casual.

I am so confused.

This is big - her first school picture.

I'll get back to you with this decision. I am sure a picture will also follow. Poor Sophie. Her mom scrapbooks and blogs. She has to pose all the time. She'll probably stick her tongue out at the school photographer.

I'd go with her favorite outfit to wear to school. You usually get some good pictures of her dressed up for Easter, Christmas, and the like, so I'd go with the school clothes for the school picture school of thought!

The first time my daughter had school pictures I bought her the cutest dress, with apples embroidered around the collar and a matching hair bow. The morning of the picture I pulled the dress out and the SECURITY TAG was still attached! I tried to pry it off, hammer it off, whatever - nothing worked. Of course she had a closet full of cute clothes, thanks to her aunts and grandmother, but I was so frustrated that she didn't get to wear THAT dress. Now she is almost 10 and has her own opinion of what to wear to school!

Carrie- You gave me such a laugh this morning! I have been looking for the email with the link to your blog for a while and FINALLY found it this morning! We are thinking about you and hoping that we are on countdown mode!! I saw your Dad yesterday at School Board Day on the Hill and really enjoyed visiting with him. After all those times of being at your house, I realized I had never been to his office- how embarassing for a civic minded person like myself!!
I hope you figured out picture day for Sophie! Girls just have too many clothes choices. Alex is great in a t-shirt and camo pants- no big deal. You know I am a bad mother because we FORGOT about school pictures this year- who knows what he wore! I sent Claire in flip flops this morning- not in the mood to fight about it- and there is 5 inches of snow on the ground! Oh, motherhood! Take care!
