The West Wing

This weekend we had the opportunity to tour the West Wing of the White House. My cousin who is an agent with the Secret Service arranged this for us. It was very interesting to walk the same hallways as so many of our country's leaders have walked. The best part for me was to see that the desk that is currently in the Oval Office. It has also been used by many of our former presidents. It is the same desk that JFK used and the one from the photo with little John playing underneath. It was a great experience and I am thrilled that part of my family was able to do this. The only regret is that the tour was scheduled during Sam's naptime, and we decided it would be best for him to stay with my cousin's wife so that everyone could enjoy the tour without a very unhappy and tired toddler. Here are a few pictures from our trip. Oh, just in case you were wondering, the First Family was in residence but we were really too busy to stop by! Sophie in front of the White House before our tour. She was already getting hot and tired and we had just gotten to DC. At this point, I was then certain that we had made the right call not to bring Sam to the tour.
Sophie in the press room. This room is much smaller than I would have thought from seeing it on TV.

Part of my big happy family in the Rose Garden - also much smaller than I would have thought.
All in all it was a good day. The White House was the only thing we did because of the crowds, having a child who was worn out, and leaving Sam with a sitter for the first time. Luckily we have family close and we live within an easy driving distance, so hopefully we will take both kids back to do some less structured things.
At the end of the day I asked Sophie if she had fun at the White House and she said,
"Yes but they didn't have toys only things to look at."

I am sure Griffin would have been unimpressed as well unless there was some sort of car tour involved.

Okay...are you guys models or what? I've been to DC a couple of times and look all touristy when I'm visiting the Smithsonian or other sites of interest.....you know nice top, shorts/capris, sandals. You look like you just left Sunday morning church service. I'm very jealous. This is why I don't post photos of myself and the hubby.

Glad you are having a great time. I love DC and hope to take the kids there in the future. Even Wylder has never been. Have a safe trip home.
