Sam continues to adjust. In fact I think he has adjusted much better than Mom and Sophie. Emotionally he has calmed significantly however he has picked up the pace on activity. I had forgotten how busy one is when a toddler is in the house. Plus he is a much more active toddler than Sophie ever was. He has left no stone unturned at our house. Sophie never touched anything but Sam has picked up everything (some of it goes in his month). I have not had to move anything (yet). He seems to be responding to, "NO, this is not a toy." All in all I think he is doing great. He is most certainly strong willed which drives a parent crazy but hopefully will serve him well as an adult.
I think Sophie is still trying to find her place in our new family dynamic. No more threats of being kicked. She did tell me this week that SHE was the boss. Other than that she also continues to adjust.
I am still working on finding my groove. I get the kids out the door clean, dressed, with everything, and on time but the house is a wreck and I am exhausted. I know it will get better. I actually skipped Grey's Anatomy last night so I could go to bed. I keep reminding myself that I was very tired those first few months with Sophie too. The difference now is napping. When Sophie slept so could I now I have to watch her.
Here are a few pictures of Sophie and Sam. These were taken the day of Sophie's choir performance at Wednesday Night Fellowship.
On another note. Last night was Sophie's first night of ice skating since her 2 month spring break. A couple of the instructors are Russian. When I mentioned to them that we had just adopted Sam from Russia and he had only been home for 2 weeks the female instructor, Olga, got so excited. She said he probably still understands Russian. She sat in front of him and started singing songs with hand motions. Sam just lit up. I have never seen him so happy. He was laughing out loud. Sophie and I couldn't understand a word of course but Sam seemed to know exactly watch she was singing and saying. It was amazing to watch.

What a sweet smile. Give yourself and the rest of the gang some slack for all the recent adjustments. You will get in a routine soon. If it makes you feel any better, our house looks like it has exploded when we leave in the morning. And it usually still looks that way until the kids are in bed. Not the neatest crew in my house:)
Hi Carrie,
First off....can your kids be any more gorgeous?? Sophie continues to look more mature each time I see her. And Sam is too cute!!! I just want to squeeze those cheeks.
Just to make you feel better, going from one to two is a huge adjustment. Things are never the same, but you get used to a new kind of normal. When Sara came home she was such an easy and happy baby. But juggling her needs and Wyatt's really threw me for a loop. My easy and predicatable schedule just flew out the window. But, with time we got into a groove and I learned to juggle it all once again.
I'm glad to hear things are going well. If you ever need to talk remember I'm just a phone call away.
Soooooooo cute!!!!! Btw, I found the perfect gift for Sam yesterday...which I need to send, but first I need something else! I am "making" a little something to go with it. I need Sam's full name, date of birth, city of birth, and date of adoption...e-mail me at kerryk74@yahoo.com It's something I make for all my adoptive mommy friends when they come home from Russia. It's become my gift tradition (cindy, Katie, and Keva already have one)! Anyway, send me the stats, and I'll get it out! Oh, and send me your home address too (though, I think I might already have it)...
Hugs,
Kerry
I just love your blog! Sam is such a cutie. Of course Sophie is too. Sounds like things are going very typical for a household with 2 small kids. It's not just twice the work- it's like 400x the work!!It's wonderful to keep up with you all this way. I have decided that we need a blog now- and I have you linked on mine- hope that is OK. Our site is thetnjonesteam.blogspot.com. Come and see us sometime! LPJ
Love the pictures!!! Your kids are beautiful.
Your children are so cute! I hope it was ok that I added you as a buddy! :-)
Your kids are beautiful! I'm enjoying reading about how Sophie is adapting to Sam. We're paper chasing to bring home a sibling home for Wodajo and I am curious how he will react when he has to share the spotlight. Oh - BTW, I'm Wendy (4 dog momma). You posted a couple of days (weeks? it runs together). I know Katie from one of her ga-zillion trips to Russia. (She may know me as Becky. LOL. She can tell you the story.) Love your blog!
