It is Good to be Home!

After a LOONNGG flight home which involved a lot of crying and pooping we were greeted in Nashville by many friends and family members. It was so nice to see everyone's face - such a wonderful welcome home. Of course I was thrilled to see my sweet Sophie. She looked like she had grown a foot since we had seen her last.

We spent our first night back in the US at my parents' house. Sam cried a lot (which totally upset Sophie) until he feel asleep. He was so tired. He slept until 8:30. We all slept so good. It was fabulous especially since we had a 9 hour drive back to Virginia. The drive also went well. Sam took an early nap and then he and Sophie took a short afternoon nap. It was a pretty uneventful trip - a nice departure from the plane trip.

When we got home my friends had decorated our house with balloons and a welcome sign. But best of all they had stocked our freezer with a week's worth of meals. What a great help!!!

Since arriving home we have had only minor adjustment issues. Sophie has already said that she is tired of being a big sister. This is better than what I told my mother when my sisters were born. I told her she should just feed me on the floor since she treated me like a dog anyway. Oh well, moving on - she loves feeding him and helping get him up and giving him a bath. I suspect that she really likes being a big sister. This morning at church she was as proud as punch when everyone was fussing over Sam.

Sam seems to be doing very well. He has slowly started to feel at home. He woke up from his nap today in such a good mood. He has laughed and run through the house like he has always been here. He is eating and sleeping very well. Bedtime is still a challenge and so is moving from one activity to another although I have seen improvement in both of these areas already.

My house is a wreck. I have laundry piled high. The suitcases are still in our bedroom floor. But overall I think we are finally getting settled.

Even though it was coming a monsoon this morning, we made it to church. I had so hoped it would be beautiful so I could get cute spring pictures but this is the best we could do.

Thanks again to everyone who has prayed for our family and Sam's adoption and have helped out in so many other ways. While it was long and difficult, we are once again in awe of the miracle of adoption. God is so good!!

Hi, Carrie. This is Kristie, Tanja's friend (I really do need to get me a Google account someday).

I've been lurking on your blog for a while and I just wanted to let you know how happy I am for you, your family and Sam.

Adoption is such a long, difficult road that only those closest to us realize and appreciate. But, the sweet, sweet reward at the end of that journey is worth the wait.

Take care! And I look forward to seeing more pictures of Sam and hearing more stories of Sophie's new life as a big sister!

I had heard that Sam was in church today. He is so cute and I love the new family picture. How do you get your kids to look at the camera?

You've got to be kidding with "these are the best we could do with the pictures" - they are SO PRECIOUS!!! I am in awe that you were brave enough to fly home and THEN drive 9 hours - you need some kind of gold star for that!
