Where does one even start when the last days have been so happy, exciting, emotionally charged?
First, I should say that I am sorry for the previous post's random order. I literally typed what came to my mind first and hit publish. My mind is so full of thoughts that it is harder than usual to make sense.
Second, I will tell you about our trip to get Sam from the baby home. When we arrived, they informed us that there was a little situation. Needless to say my heart dropped. What now? He had been running a fever and they wanted us to wait until the afternoon to get him. Well, Scott was going to Kemerovo in a little over an hour to complete all the paperwork which meant he would not be with me in the afternoon. This would have broken my heart if Scott couldn't be there to get Sam. I mean really, this is a big moment. Well, the director reconsidered after I told her I had medicine for fever and runny nose (which is thought to be why he has a fever).
When picked him up and he was in the BEST mood - no fever and full of giggles. We took him back to the hotel, and we had a great first day together. It was very different that my first day with Sophie - remember she cried the whole day. Anyway I couldn't wait for Scott to get back so he could see how fabulous our son is!
Well, a couple of hours after I put Sam to bed he woke up with a temperature of 102 and could barely breath. So out comes the Motrin and Benedryl. The Motrin worked well, and the Benedryl worked differently than I had expected - Sam was up playing at midnight. He was just grinning and having a big time! I finally got him to sleep only to have to get him up at 5 am for our flight out of Novokuznetsk back to Moscow.
The plane trip was quite adventurous. As some of my readers know first hand S7 (Siberian Airlines) is not the most spacious or cool aircraft (it is usually packed and hot). We lucked up and had the whole row to ourselves. This was great because Sam was able to sleep. It was also great because had bowel movement issues and a temperature of 103 - out comes the Motrin again. By the time we reached Moscow, he was feeling much better.
We went to the previously scheduled clinic visit. The doctor said it just looks like something that will run its course. When we arrived at our apartment, he fell asleep in my lap. Bless his heart, as if leaving the only home you have ever known is not tramatic enough -let's put him on a cramped, stuffy, plane for over four hours, change his diaper on the toliet seat four times, and drive all over Moscow; oh, yeah, and then be sick too.
Anyway, even with the sickness he has been an absolute joy. He is a very calm child and pacifies himself well. He is also very affectionate. Scott has taught to high five which always follows with a hug.
Tomorrow starts our embassy process which will be completed on Monday. Then we will head to Nashville on Tuesday the 15th.
If Sam is feeling better this weekend, we will try to do some sight seeing and shopping. Keep your fingers crossed.
I will try to post some pictures soon. I am just too tired tonight to even look for the camera.

Ugh. I am almost on that van ride to the Filatov clinic with ya. I even got all tired and yucky feeling in my mind thinking about that flight, as well. That was the one that Finley wouldn't let me sit down for ONE SECOND on. Crud. Did I remember to send you pics to give to BH1 of Finley? Oh, well. Too late now. Glad he is so calm. It will make for a nicer flight home.
I'm so sorry he's not feeling his best...but I'm thrilled that we can still "hear" the happiness in your "voice". :) Looking forward to the pics.
oh, we brought the gamer home on april 15! i hope he feels better before the long flight.
isn't walking them out of the orphanage the BEST feeling in the whole world!?!? a close second is landing in your home port. :)
I was so anxious to check for an update that I had my mom read it to me on my blackberry as I drove. I'm sorry that he's not feeling that good but I'm sure just being in the loving arms of his MOM and DAD make him feel better...you know little ones just know who loves them! Keep the updates coming and we'll keep the prayers coming your way!!! Much Love...TheC's (PS-Nancy said she could 'hear' the happiness in your
'voice' and I thought that was perfectly put...as my mom read it to me I could hear your happy voice in every word!)
Carrie!!! What great news that the new family made it to Moscow safely. Hope Sam is on the mend soon.

Congratulations, Carrie!! I'm so happy for you! It sounds like even though he's sick, Sam is doing so well. I bet those hugs are melting both of your hearts! What a sweet happy boy you have! Hope you have a pleasant safe trip home!

PS Are you from Nashville too?
Congratulations!!!!! I am so happy for you guys and can't wait to see pictures. Sorry to hear little Sam is under the weather--hopefully it will pass quickly. Reading your update brought tears to my eyes of happiness for you and remembering when we made the same journey to get our Haylie. The trip is hard, but oh so worth it in the end. Hope the plane trip home goes smoothly for you.
